new work coming soon…
grounded
Created during a collective grounding, this body of work is a journey through a time of upheaval and transition – a time to reflect on what really matters.
Like many I sought refuge and healing in nature. Being outdoors was both a classroom for my son and a source of creative inspiration for me. Together we documented the colors of our neighborhood. Through these experiments I was captivated by the abundant color of the pinecone.
The humble pinecone hugs the ground only after years spent maturing on her tree. Predominately female, the conical beauties contain mysterious movements that both protect and liberate her encased seeds. Opening when dry and closing when wet, the scales signal to the observant viewer details of the surrounding environment. Warm tones and earthy pigments, gently coaxed from locally foraged pinecones are the foundation for the work in the Grounded series.
